Bedford School Radio Uses Sonifex S1 Mixer

The Sonifex S1 Mixer at AQUILA Radio, Bedford School.
Bedford School is an HMC independent school for boys located in the town of Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. Founded in 1552, it is reputed to be the oldest of five independent schools in Bedford run by the Harpur Trust charity.
AQUILA Radio, is the school's radio station which is the brainchild of two (U6th) students who were awarded funds from the school's Lindsay-White legacy to set-up the project.
As the school has a number of 'houses' and 'common rooms' spread all over the Bedford town centre they wanted to ensure that every location could tune in to the radio station. Special Media Projects were called upon to set up the studio and install a complete IP streaming solution, each house having a direct connection to the station using IP and the schools own wide area network.
At the heart of studio is a Sonifex S1 Digital/Analogue Radio Broadcast Mixer
which broadcasts a variety of music genres, as well as concerts, drama, lectures, foreign languages shows, sports news, political debates and chapel services. In order to automate the facility, Special Media Projects synchronised the ENCO DAD Professional Audio Automation System with the mixer via serial and GPIO giving a full range of complex features normally only seen in professional broadcast facilities.
