Sonifex are showcasing a broad range of innovations on stand 4T2-06 at Broadcast Asia this year, which include, amongst other quality products, the sporty CM-CU21 commentator unit, the high performance compact S1 broadcast mixer and two new offerings from the Redbox range of audio and video interfaces.
Sales Manager, Eamonn Heffernan, said: “We are pleased to introduce to the Asian market this year, two more new additions to our expanding range of Redbox audio and video interfaces, notably the RB-DDA22 digital audio distribution amplifier with multiple outputs and the RB-VHEDD8 3G/HD/SD-SDI Dolby® E encoder & embedder.”
New to Broadcast Asia 2011 is the Redbox RB-DDA22 which is a digital audio distribution amplifier with multiple inputs and multiple outputs designed to accept one of 5 different digital inputs, amplify it and output this to 22 digital audio outputs in 5 different audio formats, accepting signals with sample rates in the range 32kHz to 192kHz.
There are 5 inputs, one each of balanced AES/EBU on an XLR socket, unbalanced AES/EBU on BNC, balanced AES/EBU on an RJ45 socket, unbalanced S/PDIF on a phono socket and a TOSlink optical connection. An illuminated front panel input select push button is used to choose one of the 5 inputs, or to select the Auto Mode. In Auto Mode the unit interrogates each of the inputs in turn until it finds a lock. There are loss of lock and signal presence indicators for each channel.
Also new this year is the Redbox RB-VHEDD8 3G/HD/SD-SDI Dolby® E Encoder & embedder which encodes 8 channels of audio into two channels of an AES/EBU digital audio stream which is then embedded onto any of the available groups within each of the two video output paths. It is also transmitted on a BNC or D-type on the rear panel. The audio inputs to the encoder can be selected from the external audio inputs via the BNC or D-type connections or from the audio in the incoming SDI input. Similarly, the metadata input for the encoder can be selected to come via the external 9-pin D-type on the rear panel, or from metadata embedded into the vertical blanking area of the video input. The unit is controlled locally through the front panel display but can be remote controlled via an ethernet connection using the Sonifex SCi software.
Other products showing are the CM-CU21 which is a portable commentator unit designed for use in sports-grounds with two fully featured commentator positions and a third guest location that can alternatively be used as a line-level input. Each of the commentator positions has an individual output, with two additional outputs providing a mix of all active commentary channels. Two talkback output channels, with a built in limiter, are available to each of the two main commentators and they can be linked to provide simultaneous operation.
The RB-PD2 stereo profanity delay is a 1U 19” rack-mount which features an automatic audio stretch algorithm that allows between 2 and 55 seconds of delay to be built up live whilst “on air”, and maintaining the correct pitch. The delay can also be created by playing an audio file on a Compact Flash™ memory card. When the programme is complete, the audio stretch algorithm seamlessly reduces the delay to zero. It has both balanced analogue and AES/EBU digital audio inputs and outputs on 3 pin XLR connectors and provides sample rates up to 48kHz at 24 bit. It can act as a combined A/D and D/A unit meaning that analogue inputs can be output as AES/EBU or vice-versa.
And finally, the S1 Digital/Analogue Radio Broadcast Mixer which is a high performance compact, low cost, fixed format mixing console designed for on-air radio use. It can be fitted flush into a desk-top or can be rack-mounted by the addition of optional rack ears. It has an amazing feature set and offers a proper broadcast solution to community, educational and student radio stations that need a versatile, reliable radio broadcast mixer. It has a ‘no compromise on quality’ approach with excellent mic amps, comprehensive facilities & simple, reliable operation.
